Lifesaving Defib Installed

A DEFIBRILLATOR has been fitted on the wall opposite Bluecorn Bakery at Wellington Square.

The Automated External Defibrillator is designed to be used by anyone in an emergency when somebody suffers a cardiac arrest in the vicinity and is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Matt Boxall, Centre Manager at Wellington Square, said: “Defibrillators are a critical piece of safety equipment for any community. To guarantee that the defibrillator is accessible 24/7 we worked with our shops to install it in a key location.

“As Wellington Square gets busier and busier, it’s extremely important to look after the safety of our customers and the wider local community. After a week from its initial install, the defibrillator has already been called upon on two occasions” added Matt.

For every minute that passes without early CPR and defibrillation, there is a 10% drop in chances of survival. The sooner CPR and a defibrillator are used, the more effective medical staff can be when they arrive.

Defibrillators use a series of voice prompts and illustrations to give step-by-step guidance. It is impossible to give a shock to the heart of someone who does not need one.
