WE ARE proud to unveil a new community-led art installation at Wellington Square.
Teaming up with our friends at ARC Stockton Arts Centre, our brand-new display showcases photographs taken by local care-experienced children and young people—and they’re absolutely amazing!
Two groups took part in this exciting project: ARC’s More Stuff Like This Please! session for children aged 8-14, and Stockton Borough Council’s ‘Let’s Take Action’ group for care leavers, aged 16-25.
Led by professional photographer Lucy Horsman, the participants first learned essential photography skills. They participated in a series of hands-on workshops, which prepared them to head out and capture the heart of Stockton town centre through their lenses.
Now, their fantastic photos are taking pride of place on our planter in Centre Square – bringing a burst of local talent and creativity to the area.
Emma Dyson, Creative Learning Coordinator at ARC, said: “This has been such an exciting opportunity for our care-experienced children and young people. They got to work with a professional photographer, pick up new skills, and now everyone gets to see their work displayed in the heart of Wellington Square. The planters look amazing, and the participants absolutely loved every minute of it!”
Chantal Taylor, Marketing Manager at Wellington Square, said: “I am always looking for fun ways to make the mall more vibrant, and this project has been fantastic! Working with ARC and these two brilliant groups has been a real treat. It’s not just about brightening up the centre—it’s about giving young people a platform to develop new skills and show what they can do!”
So next time you’re shopping at Wellington Square, make sure to check out our planter and admire the work of these talented young photographers.
